The recent reports and statistics suggest that India has crossed Brazil’s coronavirus tally and is now the second worst-affected nation in the world whereas, the US is still the worst affected nation. India saw the second consecutive rise of over 90, 000 positive cases on Monday which took the total to 42, 04, 613.
Apart from the 90, 902 fresh cases, the fatalities in the last 24 hours are 1,016 which takes the total to 71, 642. The John Hopkins University’s records suggest that the United States now has a total of over 62 lakh coronavirus cases with the death toll of over, 1.88 lakh. Brazil, which is now on the third number in the list of worst-affected nations on the globe, has 41 lakh cases with a death toll of 1.26 lakh.
The total number of COVID-19 cases across the globe has now crossed 2.70 crore, while the total death toll due to the virus has now crossed 8.82 lakh, according to the John Hopkins University reports.
Meanwhile, the total number of active cases in the 42 lakh tally is 8, 82, 542. On the other hand, the recovered number of cases is 32, 50, 429 which takes the recovery rate to 77.31 per cent.
In India, Maharashtra remains the worst affected state with a total of 9, 07, 000 cases and over 26, 000 deaths. Following Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh is the second-worst affected state in the country which has nearly 5 lakh cases with over 4, 000 people dead so far. Further, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh are ranked below Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh.
