Cybercriminals Cause ₹470 Crore in Losses, But Police Fight Back

Bengaluru’s Cyber crime Statistics Till September-end

Bengaluru, a city known for its vibrant tech community, has been grappling with a rising tide of cyber crimes in 2023. Until September-end, the city recorded a staggering 12,615 cybercrime cases, resulting in a total loss of ₹470.05 crores for its residents.

Recovery and Freezing of Funds

In the face of this digital onslaught, the city’s police force has been diligently working to address the situation. As of now, they have managed to recover ₹28.4 crore which was siphoned off through various online scams. Furthermore, they have successfully frozen ₹201.8 crore in suspicious bank accounts.

Returning Stolen Funds

The police have been actively engaged in restoring the stolen wealth to its rightful owners. A commendable sum of ₹27.6 crore has already been returned to the victims of cyber crimes. However, a portion of the confiscated money is still held up due to legal proceedings. The police await consent from the courts to complete the process and return the remaining funds.
